The city of Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development has awarded the Nia Association a $147,000 grant to help pay for construction of a multifamily duplex for low-income people and families who need temporary housing.
This building project will use structural insulated panels manufactured with EPS foam and tubular steel framing.
This building will meet the EPA's Energy Star qualifications with 8-inch thick walls and 1-foot thick roof panels of solid expanded polystyrene foam," said Dan Calderon, consultant for Nia's Community Housing Development Organization, in the news release.
Construction on the building in the Red River community is expected to be complete by Thanksgiving, according to the news release.
This is the third housing project awarded to Nia in the past three years. The nonprofit is the only Community Housing Development Organization in the area. Future CHDO projects are expected to provide a number of affordable, energy-efficient, attractive housing structures in Montgomery County over the next several years.
